Ensuring robust physical security in remote, high-risk locations within the oil and gas sector is challenging due to geopolitical issues. These concerns have led to terrorist threats targeting industry infrastructure to control valuable resources.
Oil and Gas pipelines, sites and structures are a major target for terrorist attack whether for political advantage (NDA in Nigeria), financial gain (ISIL – pipeline / refinery take overs in Iraq) or general disruption / propaganda.
The result of an attack on an oil structure could be catastrophic from a number of view points (casualties, financial, ecological, logistical) and is therefore one of our largest areas of concern.
Providing protection for these sites is generally enforced by providing a restriction of access to hostile intrusion at the perimeter of the site thereby denying access to the vulnerable parts of the site. However there are a large number of other considerations to be made to ensure that a security line is suitable and commensurate with the threat.
Avon Barrier understand the special considerations needed to protect oil and gas infrastructure and have developed solutions specifically designed to combat the unique risks posed by these sites.
As most Oil and Gas sites are perimeter restricted, the identification of a threat will generally be around the vulnerability of the fence line and access points. The solutions will alway begin with the identification of the threats, assessing the vulnerabilities and then providing suitable mitigation.
Examples of threats:
Priorities for protection would include:
Any solution strategy should start with a reduction in the threat by simple changes including infrastructure remodelling to reduce the possibility of high approach speeds and protection of “weaker” fenceline areas adjacent to entry point areas
The use of automated physical blocking systems should be considered to further reduce the risk of a successful incursion attack however the creation of protective control areas for blocking equipment is equally as important as the equipment itself.
As with most vulnerabilities, it is unlikely that physical protective measures will completely remove the risk of attack however it is proven that higher profile protection measures will reduce the likelihood and will certainly mitigate the consequence of any attack.
Our consultative approach to business enables us to provide advice on what can be done and we can help consider not only the layout design and costs but also the operational and logistical impact of the introduction of protection measures (a key element in ensuring the correct solution).
Avon Barrier can provide physical protection measures for the mitigation of hostile attack risks and have a number of unique products used in the protection of Oil and Gas facilities.
We are committed to working with you as a client more so than a customer.
Our products include road blockers, sliding gates, bollards, rising arm barriers & turnstiles with a variety of security levels from controlling access to parking spaces to protecting critical infrastructure from a vehicle borne terrorist attack.
Dependent on client requirements we can design unique solutions for our customers, to meet their specific needs. Our business model enables us to focus on our three core service offerings: concept, delivery & support.
Our customer support team provide a range of preventative maintenance packages to suit the specific requirements of our customers. Regular maintenance helps ensure smooth system operation and equipment longevity.
Our design and development team are specialists in vehicle control systems. They have developed our range of PAS 68, IWA 14-1 & ASTM impact rated hostile vehicle mitigation solutions.
Our commissioning teams are available to provide a comprehensive service to connect , test and commission your vehicle control system.
IWA 14-1, PAS 68 & ASTM 2656 are the industry testing standards that set out the criteria for physically impact testing our Vehicle Security Barriers and provide our clients with the assurance that they will provide the highest levels of physical protection against a potentially hostile vehicular attack.
We provide a high level of technical support expertise for our international clients both pre-sales and after sales.
Pre sales consultancy services will assist with successful project delivery including, design, specification compliance, risk assessment & project management. Our international after-sales support team provide a range of services including commissioning and operation of our vehicle access control systems.
With telephone based support, on-site technical assistance and a range of aftersales preventative maintenance packages that are tailored to suit your requirement. Bespoke training days are also available to our clients for more information, please contact us.
Utilities are vital resources that we depend on every day, the physical infrastructures that provide these services face an ever evolving threat, be it natural or man-made.
Ensuring the security of the movement of people and goods across the globe is vital to the infrastructures of world economies.
Military bases and border control are crucial to a nation security. Physical security controls assist in protecting these establishments from hostile threats.
